6b Design
6b Design is my personal website and professional portfolio. The purpose of this site is for me to share with you a little about myself, my philosophy on design and to showcase some of my work. Please feel free to look around and contact me with any questions or comments that you may have. Also, I am always available for new design projects and to begin new partnerships.
About Me
My name is Krissy Gogel, I’m from Baltimore, Maryland and if you haven’t already figured it out, I’m a freelance web developer and graphic designer. I enjoy reading, drawing, photography, blogging, football, and spending time with my husband and all of our lovely pets. I also enjoy designing websites and I am very lucky that one of my favorite hobbies has become my profession…
Professional Experience
My first job was (surprise, surprise!) was designing websites. For years before that I spent most of my time “playing on the computer” creating ANSI and ASCII art for local Baltimore bulletin board systems. I was pretty successful and belonged to “underground art scene” groups such as Remorse (a division of ACiD), CiA, Mimic, Unit and my own group, Aspire. Once the whole 8-bit, 16 color, BBS thing fizzled and started to die, I moved on to this new thing called the internet and began tinkering with Photoshop and designing websites. It was a lot of fun but not very lucrative.
In 1999 I began working for a local independent music store called Record and Tape Traders selling CDs and such. The company sold to an out-of-state corporation in November of 2007, so I chose not to re-apply and moved on with my life. During my eight years with RTT I held a ton of positions from Sales Associate to Store Manager to Manager in Charge of Training. I worked with a ton of great people in all of the 11 stores. As much retail eventually bored me, I did end up learning a lot about business, sales, marketing and customer service.
After my retail days were over I decided to go back to my roots and do what I liked doing best - web and graphic design. I spent a lot of time brushing up on my HTML, Php, CSS, MySQL, and Photoshop skills. In retrospect, all of the experience that I gained managing stores really showed me a different way to approach design…
Approach & Philosophy
I had a realization when developing websites the second time around. Web pages should be attractive, user friendly, simple, clean and straight to the point. I want my clients message to be heard load and clear, no matter who’s listening.
